Doctors Leonard Hofstadter & Sheldon Cooper (Johnny Galecki & Jim Parsons) are brilliant physicists – masterminds of their CalTech laboratories, but socially challenged in the non-theoretical real world. Enter beautiful, street-smart neighbor, the actress/waitress Penny (Kaley Cuoco), who aims to teach them a thing or two about life. Despite their on-again, off-again relationship in the past, Leonard believes he’s found true love with Penny. Even Sheldon has grown comfortable with a female companion, entering into a signed “Relationship Agreement” with neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler (Mayim Bialik). In their free time, Leonard and Sheldon continue to enjoy weekly trips to the comic book store and fantasy role-playing games with their ever-expanding universe of friends, including fellow scientists Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar), Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), and Howard’s microbiologist wife, Bernadette (Melissa Rauch).

soooooo funny, and...

…s m a r t; great writing and great cast = smartest funniest show on tv

Getting mean-spirited; what a shame!

I have really enjoyed this show for the first 6 seasons. Until Season 7, the writing has been remarkably intelligent and creative, with carefully drawn characters who have prominent flaws and weaknesses, but are decent and well-meaning at their core. It has been impossible not to care what happens to them.

However, after having watched the first four episodes of Season 7 with increasing disappointment, I am regretting having signed up for the entire season as the characters are each relentlessly morphing into mean-spirited people that I have little or no interest in watching.

I don't know why those in charge of some popular shows seem to 'get it' while others clearly do not. Shows like NYPD Blue, JAG and now NCIS continue to draw their characters with intelligence and care, year after year without sinking into "edginess for the sake of edginess". There are many examples of shows that started out wonderful (with high ratings, too!) which gradually substituted mean-spiritedness for intelligent character development: My Name is Earl and Rules of Engagement come to mind immediately.

Perhaps the writers (or, who knows, perhaps the actors?) get bored with doing consistent character portrayals. All I know is, if this is a taste of things to come, this show is on its way out the door. What a shame!

Great Show

Looking forward to the next season of this great TV show. All of the actors are superb as are the writers of this very creative comedy. I see lots of possible directions this series can take and look forward to many laughs as I continue to watch it all evolve. Thanks to the actors, writers, and producers for some wonderful and at times hilarious entertainment. Can't wait for season 7!!
