Landing On A Planet Of Giants Offers Retro Fun!
In It’s day, Land Of The Giants Was the most expensive TV show ever made ($250,000 per episode for the construction of giant props and extensive use of the then, new, "blue screen" process). In season one, stories often took a back seat to action and special effects. Some highlights of the season include: “The Crash,” “The Weird World,” “Brainwash” and “Target Earth.” Much of the series music score was provided by John Williams (Star Wars, Superman).
I loved this show when I was a kid!
Thanks iTunes and Fox for offering this forgotten nostalgia gem. Along with Star Trek and the other Irwin Allen TV shows, I have fond memories of watching this on an "enormous" console TV in our living room. The picture quality is great for a vintage show, and while the SFX aren't exactly ILM quality, they are still somewhat impressive - after all, this predates digital effects by nearly 30 years. It's interesting to listen to composer John Williams' early work and to see how he evolved into the film music giant (no pun intended) that he has become today. Any chance of Season 2 in the near future?
The hot 'n heady days of time travel. I adore how the rest of the cast is completely nonplussed by the giant hand stealing their child.
