The Jetsons, Season 1Closed Captioning

Open iTunes to preview or buy TV shows.

From animation pioneers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera comes The Jetsons, a futuristic counterpoint to The Flintstones featuring George Jetson and his quirky family: wife Jane, son Elroy, daughter Judy, and dog Astro. The Jetsons were the very first family, animated or not, to have a big-screen home entertainment system, decades before it became a reality. They also had flying cars and androids, lived in a floating city, used push-buttons for household chores like cooking and cleaning, and had a robot maid — all commonplace items in today's most popular sci-fi blockbusters but groundbreaking when the show first premiered in 1962.

Cartoons have been cut!

Jetsons as a cartoon get five stars, but these releases get only 2. They have had scenes cut... for example, the Uniblab episode is missing the sequence where George finds a quarter, Uniblab's chest turns into a slot machine, George plays, and the spinners spell out "CHUMP". Someone's bizarre sense of political correctness at work? Or maybe just versions of the show shortened to permit cramming of even more commercials in there when shown on TV. Either way, collections such as these should feature the ORIGINAL, UNCUT versions of the shows.

Jetson's are Out Of This World!

When watching the Jetsons, it is important to note that many of the space age contraptions used are now becoming a reality. This cartoon was made for prime time audiences in 1963 but introduced such innovations we see today like the people mover, the microwave, cell phones, GPS systems, giant screen TV's, and may other objects quickly introducing themselves to our way of life. When a new piece of tech comes out it's not long before someone likens it to George and Jane Jetsons household. This is a timeless classic with endearing characters. Jane! Stop this crazy thing: So viewers can get on!

Can I Be the First to Say: Where Are Our Flying Cars?

Yes, we've all been waiting for our flying cars since we were kids planted in front of the remote-less TV where we sat "too close to the TV" because we were lazy and didn't want to have to move to switch the stations. I swear people used to worry about that! Anyway, the Jetsons are great. Space-age, retro-chic and they even have Rosie the robot. These cartoons stand up to the test of time. I would recommend buying the entire season at once, because that way you'll save money. Beware: you only get about 22 minutes instead of 44/45 minutes compared to other shows. I've always loved the Jetsons and I hope you will too. Classic animation. Wonderful!
