Am I watching a different show than the critics?
I just finished watching the premier episode of Orville. After reading the reviews I was skeptical, but I was pleasantly surprised. I found the show fun, a bit charming, and pretty funny. The special effects, costumes, alien makeup, props, and settings surpass most TV shows, although nothing compared to shows like The Expanse. But unlike that show and the vast majority of "modern" high budget shows, Orville actually is a light-hearted, feel-good, character driven (admittedly in its infancy), show that brings back the wonder, hope, and vision that we've lost since Star Trek...and I don't mean the post-2008 dark, loud, action "Trek" we're seemingly stuck with now. If you have a sense of humor and a heart, and liked Star Trek when it was Star Trek, you'll love Orville.
I liked the show
It's what we need a light hearted funny show, don't get me wrong I like all the other shows out there and how they are dark and have deep storylines. But I also like funny, light shows too. Slash I love Star Trek and Star Wars so I like this show a lot. People just give it a chance and watch a couple episodes before you write it off!
Surprising, refreshing & fun!
Wow! It was surprisingly balanced and enjoyable! Light on humor, not Star Trek but that might make it better in some ways, more fun!
It's a refreshing change of pace to have a sci-fi show that doesn't take itself too seriously, and still manages to come off with surprising moments of seriousness. I was not expecting this balance. Pretty excited to see what the future season has!
I think they may be on to something new, fresh, different and funny. I dig it! 👍
