This show is done well, simply put. The cast of characters are all chefs of great repute and they are given tricky settings in which to cook their best. It's great. The only thing that seems amiss is the host of the show. I don't recall her name, but she comes across as being really fake. She's no Padma. There's a balance of tough love and love of eating good food that Padma puts out that totally works. This gal hasn't shown that ... yet.
Better than the original!
I love Top Chef Masters because it shows some great cooking, with chefs I know or have heard of, and they focus on the food, not pointless drama! The host is not so good, which keeps me from giving this 5 stars-- but everything else on this show is awesome!
Winning me over
As a huge Top Chef fan, I watched ep 1 and thought it was a little boring, but after watching ep 2 I think I might be hooked; somehow the politeness off it all is offset by the giant reputations of the chefs entering into competition for the first time since becoming the established, accomplished masters of the kitchen that they're used to being. If the talent level stays this high, I'm in.
