Predictable and awful
How do you take a great Cold War novel and ruin it with formulaic plot lines and high school-level dialogue? "The Last Ship" answers that question. From unbelievably model-pretty characters (the captain's hair gel, the lead scientists cheek rouge fresh off the ice pack, uniformly attractive females serving on ship - please, I was in the Navy ), to horribly corny, unrealistic lines ("permission to salute the captain"), this was a big budget, dull, utterly predictable waste of time. Don't bother - if the pilot was any indication, I hope The Last Ship fails in its mission and humanity dies. It will be a mercy killing.
Having watched the first episode, it seems like the writers took dialog from every action, naval military, and Michael Bey movie, chopped them up, and used them in a soundboard app to be played at the appropriate point in the story. You will swear you've seen this all before (and chances are, you have.) This show is a quintessential Summer fill-in. Not horrible, but if you have something else to do (like mop the floors), you can skip the show without missing a thing.
Really great show but...
…the one star ratings, posted out of frustration with the prequels before the pilot, are just childish. This show is clearly worth 4-5 stars, not one star, so please revise your rating.
After watching the first episodes, I really love this show. Very well made, good acting and an interesting story. Absolutely great!!!
