Since its initial episode in 1998, MTV's award-winning True Life documentary series has told remarkable real-life stories of young people and the unusual subcultures they inhabit. Whether documenting the lives of gay marriage activists, individuals dealing with obesity, or teens in high school, the True Life series tells its stories solely through the varied voices and points-of-view of its characters — putting the series in the unique position of reflecting the state of youth culture at any given moment. The 2008 collection includes: "I'm an Alcoholic," "I Panic," "I'm Happy To Be Fat," "I Need Anger Management," "I Have a Husband in Iraq," and more.

A show worth watching

"True Life" is really one of the few (very few) shows on MTV I'll actually sit down and watch. It centers around real people, real issues, and how they're REALLY coping with them. There's no scripted or pre-planned setup like there is with some of MTV's other shows (Next, Parental Control, etc.) The show deals with a wide variety of topics from alcoholism to personality disorders. Each one centers around three different people all coping with similar issues but with completely different ciscumstances. In the end though, the show really makes you think about your own life and how your handling it. The show's meant to provoke thought and discussion, something most shows out there today don't do. Maybe that's the magic of documentaries, they're fascinating, yet humbling all at once.

Best show on MTV

Everyone complains that MTV shows arent about music anymore, lalalalala. But I think thats totally fine!!!! B/c the shows on MTV are awesome especially this one. This show shows people in real life and how they go about dealing with it. Watching these people is truly inspiring. PLus, you learn that you're not that bizarre and wierd b/c there are other people just like you. This show is truly awesome. Hopefully MTV will release all the past seasons soon.
