A Vampire Drama I Can Really Sink My Teeth Into
While fans of Angel and other vampiric canon have scorned this show from day one, and it has seen some significant changes during production, the show is quite better than most believe it to be, and well complimented by the rest of it's Friday lineup (we go from a ghost drama to a vampire/crime drama, to a math/crime drama). Our lead will give McDreamy a run for his money, and even better, our boy has values and problems that we'll defiently be seeing more of. I admit, our little damsel Beth is a dime a dozen, but once we get further into her history with St. John, she will become a more likeable character. Physco vampire ex-wife Coraline is... well, that, apparently, from all we've seen of her in the pilot (a miniscule two minutes of flashbacks). The special effects are just enough to make it quasi-realistic (expected on a project like this), but as they have not been overused or overemphasized (yet), I am pleased. The score is decent, if they would use it more (most of the music noticed in the pilot is from other bands). The plot is a mish-mash of several dozen shows previous it (I'll call it Superman meets Angel), but is compensated for by the execellent cast. With little else on Fridays but numb3rs (which shows after it), this show shall do decent during football season, and stellar afterwards (once people are seriously watching that night again). -Ara
sexy and smart
Why are shows and books about vampires so attractive? For me it's about the mystery and the ultimate bad boy complex they seem to radiate. I'm so happy that once again there is a vamp show on the air. Not only does Moonlight create a plot that pulls you in but the romance and the action helps to keep you interested. Plus, Alex O'Loughlin is just plain sexy as a vamp. I am looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season turns out....
I liked the emotional vulnerability of Mick St John and I found the special effects that were used to show his powers believable. I don't know that I would have tried this show without the free preview because so many of the reviews were negative, but I really liked the show. It is nice to see such a powerful being trying to help us mortals; I find that rather heroic.
