Daredevil follows Matt Murdock, attorney by day and vigilante by night. Blinded in an accident as a child, Murdock uses his heightened senses as Daredevil, fighting crime on the streets of New York after the sun goes down. His efforts are not welcomed by powerful businessman Wilson Fisk -- aka Kingpin -- and others whose interests collide with those of Daredevil. Though Murdock's day job portrays a man who believes in the criminal justice system, his alter ego suggests otherwise, as he takes the law into his own hands to protect his Hell's Kitchen neighborhood and the surrounding communities.

Daredevil: a Cinematic Marvel
Long after the less-than-spectacular film based upon the same Marvel Comics character left the screen, and shortly after Fox failed to get a reboot of their own off the ground before their contract with Marvel expired, Marvel Studios got ol’ Horned back and decided to give the devil his due. Executive produced and created by Drew Goddard (Buffy, The Cabin in the Woods, The Martian) and head-written by fellow Whedon-alum Steven S. DeKnight, Daredevil is brought into the shared continuity of the Marvel Cinematic universe. Disney’s ABC Studos partnered with Netflix to debut a series that can be darker in tone than the blockbusters staring the various Avengers, but still keeps from falling over the edge into territory that the MPAA would give an R-rating to, even if only barely. The action, bordering on gore, is artful and beautiful— but most importantly true to the character, The first season chronicles Matt Murdock’s rise into the night as the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen as he faces off against Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin of crime, as he rallies mobsters and worse to take control of a city reeling from the devastating consequences of “the incident” (the climactic, cosmic battle above New York City seen in The Avengers). Charlie Cox (Stardust) stars as Matt Murdock, owning the role as if no one had yet played it, opposite Vincent D’Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket) as the Kingpin, along with Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood) as Karen Page, Elden Henson (The Mighty Ducks) as Foggy Nelson, Eyelet Zurer (Man of Steel) as Vanessa Marianna, and ever-brilliant Rosario Dawson (Sin City) as Clair Temple. Beyond the gritty long-form crime drama, seeds are planted for sister-shows Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and of course future storylines featuring Elektra and The Hand, who are joined by The Punisher in Season Two. Daredevil: the first Defender.
The Peak of Marvel Cinema
I've been a fan of Marvel Comics and its characters for decades. Since the introduction of the first Iron Man movie they have repeatedly set the bar higher and higher in terms of excellent story telling and cinema with few missteps.
Daredevil set a new standard with me that I still have yet to see them exceed. This is a five course meal of a story with depth and layers beyond what most TV shows can grasp in a single season. Bravo Marvel.
and season 2 is even better!
Just re-watched season one after watching season two & I had forgotten how great season one is. There are so many connections to season two. I recommend anyone that finishes season two to do the same.
