Description

Demon outlaws? Magic guns? Spiked coffee? Just another day at the office for motorcycle riding, whisky-slinging, fast-talking heroine Wynonna Earp. After a troubled adolescence spent in and out of juvie, she’s returned to her hometown of Purgatory, hellbent on ending the family curse, which resurrects every one of the villains her legendary ancestor dispatched. Only Wynonna can send Wyatt Earp’s kills back to hell before they escape from their earthly prison and wreak havoc on the entire world. That is, if she can stay out of trouble…

Fast and Fun

Watched the initial episode and am now sold on the series. The casting is spot on, led by Melanie Scrofano as Wynonna. It’s a fun ride, and according to the promos, more action is coming. It’s unlike anything on TV now, and definitely reminds me of Buffy. Highly suggest watching

Best new genre show of the season

It's a bold claim, I know. But I truly believe Wynonna Earp is the best new show of the season. First, the dialog. The one-liners in this show are on point. Sure, it sometimes feels like there could be a bit less of them. But when you think about the Wynonna character and what she's been through, it makes sense that she'd use humor as a defense mechanism. Second, the cast and characters. The cast isn't full of big-names, but that doesn't matter when they're all so likeable, act so effortlessly, and perfectly embody the characters. Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna), Dominique Provost-Chalkley (Waverly), and Tim Rozon (Doc) absolutely shine and steal every scene they're in. Scenes they share with each other are a treat. The rest of the cast is stellar as well, but these three have received the most to do in the episodes we've seen so far. Third, the plot is based on a comic book series, and the creator of that series is very involved in the production of the show. This seems to rarely happen nowadays with adaptations, and it assures that the series will keep the comic fans and show fans happy. Additionally, the intrigue in this plot keeps me wanting more (as someone who hasn't read the comics, which I'm assuming might answer a few questions). Is Doc a good guy? Bad guy? How did he even get here? What's up with Waverly and that cop? What isn't Dolls telling them? How does Wynonna even function after all the terrible things she's been though? And this is only the spoiler-free basics. The only thing that I don't particularly like is the special effects quality, but I assume they'll get better if the show continues and gains popularity.

Very good start...

…a bit slow though but the main character/heroine plays her role pretty well and the story seems to be interesting. A 2016 Buffy with a twist? Worth watching, I just hope it gets a bit more action though.
