Blue Sky Boys on Radio, Vol. 1 contains a selection of the group's radio transcriptions from 1946 and 1947, when the Blue Sky Boys were at the height of their career. Most of the group's most popular songs are included, as are some commercials, comedy routines, and instrumental solos, all of which help to effectively evoke the era. But the album is much more valuable than just a mere artificat — it also demonstrates what a tremendous duo Bill and Earl Bolick actually were, as well as how rich their music was.

In the '30s, brother duets were common in country music: Among the better known were the Monroes, the Delmores, the Dixons, and the Carlisles. Bill and Earl Bolick, who in 1936 were ready to make their first recording, followed their producer's suggestion that they should be different by avoiding the word "brother."
