About BRIGHT

Bright is a four-member girl band from Japan that mixes J-pop with R&B and gospel. Initially labeled "Ko Spellers" and formed in 2001 by a trio of childhood friends, Nagi (full name Nagisa Shigemura; alto), Mi-Mi (Mizuki Inoue; mezzo-soprano), and Meg (Megumi Nakaya; soprano), the group changed its name to Bright in 2003, when it was joined by Nanaka Kobayashi (mezzo-soprano). The girls graduated from Caless vocal and dance school in Osaka, and debuted in earnest in 2007, releasing the singles Brightest EP 01 and Brightest EP 02 on the indie label Rhythm Republic and playing several live shows on a busy shopping street in Kyoto. Soon they were picked by the major label Rhythm Zone, debuting with the EP Brightest Star; it didn't chart well, not even cracking Top 100, but two singles from 2008 entered the Top 50, and the third, Tegami, boosted by a guest appearance by the Korean pop performer K, was popular in Japan and clawed its way to number 39. In 2008, Bright also started their own radio show. The band's debut album, Notes 4 You (2009), however, peaked at number 47, and the 2009 singles Kotoba ni Dekinakute/Shining Butterfly and Feelin' You only reached number 64 and number 76 respectively.
