14 Songs, 1 Hour

EDITORS’ NOTES

Afro-soul singer/songwriter Berita’s third studio album is one of understated pop prowess and sheer vocal delight. Following a Metro FM chart-topping lead single, “Nguwe Wedwa”, her self-titled LP's second release—a jazzy, galvanising groover named “Surprises”—bears further testament to the acoustic guitar-wielding Zimbabwean-born songstress’ crossover appeal. Produced by Nigerian guitarist Kunle Ayo and local music star Mjakes Thebe, Berita also features the voices of Congolese singer/songwriter TRESOR and beloved "Princess of Africa" Yvonne Chaka Chaka.

IT'S A MASTERPIECE!

Certainly worth the wait! Berita's distinctive and beautiful vocals do not disappoint throughout. It's the kind of album you want to play from the first song to the last, without skipping any tracks - and then repeat it all again.

It sounds like she is on another level in this album, and has drawn inspiration from a plethora of influences to put together a masterpiece. The Swahili track 'Milele' proves that music is a universal language (especially when it’s well done!). The album is well balanced with some beautiful soulful jams (like ‘Indoda’ and nguwe Wedwa); and some amazing upbeat tracks (like ‘Over you’ uyandiphambanisa & Surprises).

It’s hard to choose a favourite from this 14 track album because every song will be your absolute favourite, until you listen to the next one
