Discovery Insure is motor insurance for good drivers.

Through, our smartphone-enabled DQ-Track, which incorporates the Discovery Insure app and our tag device, Discovery Insure clients get real-time feedback on their driving, amongst other innovative features. Good driving earns fuel rewards - our clients can get up to R800 back every month.

To get your rewards, you need to install our tag device and make sure it’s linked to the Discovery Insure app. Then, activate your Vitalitydrive card by SMS or online at www.discovery.co.za, and always swipe it when you fill up at BP. You can also get rewarded for your Gautrain spend. Simply link your Gautrain Gold card at www.discovery.co.za.

Use of the Discovery Insure app is limited to Discovery Insure clients who have installed the smartphone-enabled DQ-Track. Learn more about us.

Note: The Discovery Insure app uses Location Services. When not driving, it does not use GPS. It uses battery-efficient methods to automatically determine the start of a trip, and stops detailed monitoring soon after a trip ends. The app is aware of your battery life and will not start monitoring a drive if the battery is low. Although the app has been designed to use the phone's sensors in a battery-efficient way, running the app without a charger on long trips may drain the battery.

Great app, BUT!!!

The app works well, except:
1. That the braking could be seriously looked at. Travelling at the speed limit, traffic light goes orange and I can stop comfortably, without squashing my nose against the windscreen, I get hammered for hard braking.
2. The GPS app that is used is not very accurate! One example of this is: There’s a section of road by us that has always been 80km/h, but your app says it’s 60km/h (Ruimte road between Rooihuiskraal Road/Gouws Avenue and Aletta Avenue). There is an actual sign board giving the speed limit as being 80 between these 2 roads, so either the app needs to be updated or get a more accurate app. I keep being hammered for something that is your issue.

App works well - mostly

Took discovery insure a few months ago, and overall the experience is great. I find myself being more aware while driving, which makes the down side so much more visible.

Virtually all points I lose are due to the app not measuring whether I drive according to road signage or not. Virtually without exception, overspeeding points deductions have been given where signage states a different speed limit than what Discovery seems to have in its database. I have tried to escalate this issue within Discovery but to no effect. I went as far as taking photographs with GPS coordinates proving that the points deduction is incorrect, and yet the points were not reinstated.

This points at two things - the measurements are not accurate according to road signage, and the customer service do not pay attention to customers and do not rectify obvious mistakes even if the customer goes the extra mile to assist Discovery in rectifying those mistakes.

Disheartened and Disappointed After 4 Years

As a loyal client of Discovery Insure for over four years, it is with great regret and disappointment that I write this review. Throughout my tenure with them, I have never made a single claim, expecting this would reflect positively in my dealings with the company. However, the reality was starkly different.

My primary issue lies with the Vitality Drive program. The communication around this service was often unclear and inconsistent, leaving me confused about its benefits and my eligibility. Despite my attempts to seek clarification, the responses I received were vague and sometimes contradictory, leading to a frustrating experience.

Moreover, the premiums I was offered were unreasonably high. As a customer who had never filed a claim, I expected to be valued for my low risk and loyalty. Yet, the premiums quoted to me were not just slightly higher, but exorbitantly so. This became glaringly obvious when I compared them with quotes from other insurance providers, which were significantly lower – in fact, less than half of what Discovery Insure was charging me.

This experience led me to make the difficult decision to switch providers. What adds to my disappointment is the realization that there seems to be an underlying racial bias in the way clients are treated and valued. This is not just deeply troubling but also goes against the principles of fairness and equality.
